How to Remove Programs or Software From Your Computer

Removing Programs or Software  from your computer is not difficult, but there are a few simple rules that you must follow. For instance, some software programs have the built in ability to remove themselves from your computer. You need to check this out before you go to the Add/Remove Icon in the Control Panel.

To do this, click on the Start button and move to Programs, then find the program you want to remove. Once you have found the program with your mouse, another menu box appears. Look in that box to see if there is an Uninstall button to select. If Uninstall button is there, click on it to begin removing the unwanted software program. Using any other method could cause your computer to crash.

If the software program that you want to remove does not have an Uninstall program, then this is the next step to take:

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. From the menu, select settings.
  3. Click on Control Panel.
  4. Double-click on the Add/Remove icon.
  5. The Add/Remove dialog box appears. The Install/Uninstall is the first folder. This is the folder you want. Their is a white box in the lower portion of the folder that lists all the software programs on your computer. Click on the software program you want to uninstall.
  6. Click the Add/.Remove button. Anew dialog box appears asking if you are sure you want to remove this program.
  7. Click the OK button. The program will begin to uninstall. During the uninstall process, a dialog box may appear asking if you want to delete a .dll. This .dll may be shared with other programs. Do not delete any .dll's. They take up so little space on your hard drive, that it is not worth taking the chance to delete them.
  8. As soon as the program is uninstalled you may be asked to reboot your computer. Reboot.
  9. The software program is no longer on the computer.
